Literature Text

My love looks cute from a distance:
soft, sweet, and tender.
I say a few words, look away, and maybe
if you're lucky
you can see a hint of the special smile in my eyes that says
"Let's talk again. I Like You."

I do it to fascinate people, like an anglerfish
with his glowey orb of goodness waiting to
gobble
people up.

And when you come again,
I make sure my cheerful smile is the first one
you see when you walk though the door.
So in the end, when we get close enough,
I can pull off my mask and reveal that

I am not a very nice person:
The gentle shell is devoured by glittering eyes that
will never be content with how much you tell her.
She wants to know more, more, more until you are not your own
and she can morph herself into a copy of you.
Because I admire you, and I can't imagine a world
where you aren't happy with your own interests.

And you find that the person you loved is really
not a person at all. Just a chameleon.
And if she loved a robber, she would learn to
steal you blind before you turned around to scream.

I can't fix it.
I can't fix myself to become a person. I've tried.
I want to grab you. Tangle with you. Learn you.
Find your faults; heal them. Marvel at your strengths; trust them.
And to do that, I will rip apart your world
and settle in your living rooms and
ask questions that probably shouldn't be asked.
All under the pretense that this is an honor,
because I grant the opportunity to so few.

And it eats me up that I can't help you, because
my love caused the problem and
my love is the isssue and
perhaps my love would be better off if I let it be
shallow, and cheerful, and ditzy
since people seem to like that a lot more.

And at that point, I would let you go because I still
love you far to much to make you unhappy;
and my smile would become sweet again with a
mask to hide all the pain.
And maybe you wouldn't know which path to choose,
because a love like mine isn't found that easy;
but a normal person would run away,
because I haven't found one that will stay yet.
Felt like writing this anyway and Chen's prompt poked me to do it. ^^'
Chen's poem

It's odd how much poetry I've been writing though. I miss all my story ideas. :c   (Actually, I have like- three prompts sitting on the back burner right now and they're really good fic ideas I ought to be writing them instead of this random prose~ phhht.)

First of all, my favorite part of this poem is all the awesome creative analogies you use, like the chameleons and anglerfish and robbers and whatnot. I also admire how open you're able to be about the feelings you're having. It takes a great deal of emotional maturity to be able to honestly assess one's relationship struggles, and a great deal of bravery to share it with others. Commendable work, my friend!
